Crimea is quite different to the Donbass as there are a lot of locals/residents (or whatever the polically correct term is these days for native) who have lived there hundreds of years and probably see themselves as more Crimean than Ukranian or Russian. Tartars and folk like that.... As for the Donbass, I'm not going to spend ages digging up material but it should be obvious there isn't a lot of pro-Russian sentiment anywhere in Ukraine including the east. That said there seems to be less and less support for Zelensky. My old MIL really hates him and after so long of having to live with us blames the west at least as much as Russia.

Err I kind of agree about Europe but Russia is heading even faster to the dustbin, with a huge demographic time bomb coming it's way and an economy based on oil and gas, it's at present at least a bit of a one trick pony. The world is moving away from oil and gas and will not want as much off it soon. Without Ukraine and it's agricultural land, the world's people will always need feeding , what resources has it got. I think that is why Putin started this war to grab a economic future for Russia from Ukraine. Its got huge resources including an agricutural basin of itself but its just mired in corruption. Frankly, I would say both Ukraine (unless it gets severely rescued - EU money and regulation) and Russia are dower places. Lots of soviet blocks especially outside the capitols. Not sure about Moscow, but Kyiv is absolutely riddled in potholes. Nothing whatsoever like the odd pothole we have here. Lots of really old Ladas and Muscvitches on the streets but also a fair few brand new "Jeeps" (4x4), Teslas etc quite often driven like absolute nutters. Pensioners often out on the streets till late at night selling their produce of their gardens. etc

The EU referendum very narrowly passed - 50.46% of the vote - despite substantial evidence of Russian-led vote-buying. 14,000 vote margin, and alleged evidence of 130k-300k votes having been bought.

She didn't get a majority so it now goes to another round. And some are saying her share of the vote is likely insufficient to get her to win in the second round as the next two down will join forces.

The headline and first few sentences of this are enough for me to get the gist. Russia loves Trump. Hopefully Ukraine will start negotiations before the coming collapse of the front lines and this pointless war will come to an end. I also hope the the soldiers trapped in Kursk have the common sense to surrender. Perhaps the US political elite will realise the balance of power in the world has shifted and their dream of global hegemony through military power is over. The Colonel in his latest podcast gave some interesting information he has received on the recent strike on Iran by Israel - apparently the Israeli's were planning a much larger operation but aborted it after they realised their initial attempt at using missiles to take out the Russian air defence systems Iran has had not be successful - so did not want to risk their fighter bombers in Iranian airspace. Hopefully all of this is going to lead to more diplomacy - and a more peaceful/equitable multi-polar world.

Still counting, but currently standing at 55% and has declared victory.
