Decided to open a Growth Street account yesterday & went through all of the security questions etc & it opened OK.
I set it up on one of our bank's current accounts to transfer them some money, & sent them £10 as a transfer check, which went into the GS account OK.
Today I decided to send them another £990 & it set my bank's alarm bells ringing & they stopped the transfer & sent me emails & texts to get in touch with them ASAP
The bank thought I was the victim of a scam or fraud as the GS sort code & account flagged up as a pre-payment account. (the kind you use for holiday money)
When I looked on the GS deposit page, it states that "Your bank may show the destination bank as "PrePay Technologies Limited"
Anyway, after talking with the bank, they allowed the payment through (& unlocked my internet banking account) although it hasn't arrived in GS account yet.
Has anyone else had any problems like this with GS (or anyone else for that matter)

I don't recall having this happen with GS but I have not deposited money into my account with them for a while.
However, 2 or 3 months ago I opened an account with a different platform and did the same as you ie transferred £10, followed by £1000. My bank blocked the second transfer and requested I contact them. The transfer went ahead when I confirmed it. I took it to be a demonstration of the bank's fraud detection system working well. Quite reassuring.

Im with LLoyds, and this happened to me, it's how the money is handled that looks wrong to the banks. Been problem free ...money both ways since. Mick.

Regarding the Black Horse bank, there was a day it blocked my payment 4 times in a day. At the end, I spent a long time on the phone and I had to pop to the branch in person with ID to unblock payment. After making an official complaint, got paid £50 plus money for mobile calls and travel cost. Eventually, I found out from Bank's Tech support they don't like people using PC with teamviewer installed. It is unlikely to get blocked if the transfer is done by your phone app with TouchID / FaceID.

It is unlikely to get blocked if the transfer is done by your phone app with TouchID / FaceID. Had the same issue myself with Lloyds today, but it was when using the app on my phone rather than a PC. Did a trial deposit yesterday for £100 which went through fine, tried again a few hours later for a larger amount which was refused but was allowed to transfer a smaller amount which I did, tried again later and was refused again and my internet banking suspended. Rang them up this morning to try and get my account unblocked, I tried to explain about the payments but they just replied that they thought it was a scam (their words) and this type of payment was a common method of scamming, I then asked them to forget about the payment but just restore my internet banking as I use Lloyds for my everyday banking as well as an account just for P2P, they refused to unblock it insisting that I was a victim of a scam, so now have to take time off work and go to a branch, which to be fair is quite a novel experience for me so may take the kids and a picnic. Raises a couple of interesting questions though. Is this just Lloyds, I had the same problem with a deposit to Huddle which also resulted in my internet banking being blocked, and if it is which other banks don't have these issues? If PrePay Technology Ltd is, as Lloyds claim, a common vehicle for scams (and I'm not convinced it is and think it's probably just an excuse) should we as upstanding members of the community use platforms that also, however unwittingly (and I'm not accusing GS of anything), use it also? Good to hear that you got some compensation though because being without online banking even for a few days is certainly rather inconvenient, which makes me wonder how we ever coped before the internet.

Guess what, they said roughly same thing to me. But I was transferring money to my own accounts. The answer to accounts being blocked, is having multiple accounts and spread the risks. TSB and Natwest were good examples of IT meltdown.

I'd be interested to know if you have any Halifax or Bank of Scotland accounts and whether the online banking for those accounts was also blocked? All part of the Lloyds Banking Group of course.

Yes I do have accounts with Halifax, but no they weren't blocked, I've used them today without any problem. But I may just for the fun of it try to deposit from Halifax to GS tomorrow and see what happens.

I wonder if it's because Lloyds and HBOS operate under separate banking licences? I hope that one day with open banking that this kind of fraud prevention stuff isn't shared with other organisations because you'll find yourself locked out of all of your online banking!

Nationwide still block and freeze the account and require a conversation with their anti-fraud dept....
...then they unblock and life goes on.
Quite reassuring really - they were concerned I had been cold called and "persuaded" to make an ill considered investment....

Recently, I have transferred £££££ to Growth street with 2 different banks, no problem at all. May be if it is the first payment over the limit, the bank anti fraud system blocked the payment.

Attempted to transfer 5k to GS, as soon as I hit "confirm" my on-line access was blocked.... phoned them (long wait to get to speak to someone and long conversation with fraud department).. the only way to get unblocked is to visit the branch with ID... spent nearly an hour in branch... got unblocked... tried to send my 5k again and got blocked again... eventually two more lengthy phone conversations brought this saga to an end - my money were sent to GS and I've never been blocked again. I appreciate their anti-fraud and security commitment, but I think in this case they've taken this to an extreme.

This reminds me the very similar issue I had a long time ago with Lloyds when I transferred fund to my own account. Not sure how much TSB rely on Lloyds to run the bank these days on IT support, since TSB refused help from Lloyds and had IT meltdown sometime ago. At the end, TSB paid me compensation for the phone calls, travelling cost to visit a branch and good will payment for blocking the these payments more than 3 times in a row same day.
