Will be interesting to see if they really intend to operate a language school or whether it's merely a ploy to attract investors, possibly Chinese, into buying their "student accommodation". The more successful language schools I know of are in large cities, particularly those with universities, i.e. places that foreign students will have heard of and want to visit, and major seaside towns with lots of out of season accommodation to fill. Paisley seems an improbable candidate.
The final outcome will depend on how persuasive they are or how gullible the investors. If development finance isn't forthcoming, the security becomes a charming white-elephant with huge maintenance and running costs but without any obvious use.

There's a Billion+ Chinese, and we only need 99+ mugs ... and the track record of P2P in China indicates there are LOTS more mugs than that out there. But I still decline to play.

Paisley seems an improbable candidate. Paisley is a wannabe contender for a future UK city of culture. With its rich heritage too, it might make for a good place to attract overseas students with a language school, but the area in general does need a bit of investment.

With its rich heritage too, it might make for a good place to attract overseas students with a language school, but the area in general does need a bit of investment. This lies the problem, Paisley after 8pm is notorious for the wrong reasons and the plan is to attract Chinese students ? I think if that was the case the Alexandria Parade Hospital is the first place that will need more investment. Just now in Glasgow the west end is the main attraction for the thousands of Chinese students mainly at Glasgow university but the whole area surrounding the university has been purchased for Chinese businesses and property to cater for these students. This has had a booming effect for businesses in that area. The west end of Glasgow has always been the upbeat, safe and posh area for students with money. Why would highly intelligent wealthy people want to go to a place in Paisley and get stabbed? Not saying its impossible but wouldn't bet on it to happen in my lifetime.

To be fair I think Paisley is a much better place than it's reputation.
There are some swanky new developments and plans for more. Some new restaurants and upmarket bars opening up.
It does have a university as well, University of west of scotland, although I don't know anything about it.
There are far worse areas to live and be a student.

True hazellend. Students could come to Birmingham 8 murders in 5 days. Not to mentiin shootings at unmarked police cars and a standoff over a gun possession next to a primary school. Wonder what we will wake up to tomorrow. And the place stinks of rubbish due to an ongoing strike by bin technicians leaving stuff to pile up in the streets. Come on international students, you know you want to study at one of our multitude of universities. Anyone wanna buy a 3 bed end terrace in a leafy suburb?

There are far worse areas to live and be a student.I disagree, there are nice areas of Paisley but mostly residential areas. At the center of paisley and immediate surrounding this area is the wild west, particularly in the evening. There are far worst areas to live and be a student but you are talking about very wealthy students who pay on average around £40k (including student accommodation, and small spending allowance for a 12 month masters course ). This is a minimum average. Then you have the Chinese students who are buying high end cars and property while they study in the UK. Not your average foreign student.

Unfortunately it's reputation that counts. Glasgow, London, and cities with world-famous universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh, places that young foreign students may have actually heard of, will all have an advantage; not towns with little-known renamed polytechnics however pleasant they might be. I'd wouldn't expect to see Paisley on the must-see bucket list of many young Chinese. There are also lots of language schools in towns like Torquay and Bournemouth which may not be on any bucket-list but have the commercial advantage of cheap out of season accommodation.
With neither advantage, Paisley doesn't seem a great place to start a new language school - and I'm sure the borrowers are astute enough to know that.

Update: 09/02/2018 This loan is being extended for three months. Sales have been progressing well with 30 reservations to date and a further 8 in the pipeline. The extra time should be more than sufficient to achieve the c. 40 sales needed to repay the facility (once formal exchanges have completed).
