I assumed electricians cos of van outside, however the only sounds I heard was drilling and slightly manic laughing. But that's normal for Plymouth

MoneyThing Is there any on-site security? And will there be during the anticipated period that the site is mothballed?

That 'plumbing' section. Oh dear. 😠As an amateur plumber and tiler my greatest fear is leaking water especially from behind tiling. Imagine turning on the water and then finding leaking from every room, nightmare! Appreciate these guys might not have been paid but common, what a bunch of bstrds.

Fair play to MT for disclosing it.
But, it doesn't sound good. I wonder if there are any other 'presents' left behind from other aggrieved parties.
I am not that optimistic that there will be sufficient numbers of 'language' students. I wonder if it would be just better not going down this route and going for the next academic year (assuming the trading loss from having such a low occupancy rate is equal to the loss incurred just having it empty).

MoneyThing Is there any on-site security? And will there be during the anticipated period that the site is mothballed? Afternoon timmy. I think the reality is that there will still be ongoing snagging works post practical completion which means people will be on site. However, the Administrators did mention they intend to put two guardians in the blocks for security and maintenance purposes whilst it is moth balled. Regards, Ed

I hold Unite corporate bonds in my SIPP. I think this is a better bet for exposure to student accommodation than P2P these days. Am not convinced about any of the smaller scale sites any more.

Good idea. One of my sons lived in a Unite accommodation in his second year at uni. Somewhat over-priced compared with house renting but it was well-run and the quality of rooms was respectable. It was also popular with international students who probably have deeper pockets (they all had iPhones!) than home students.

The remarks about "Above average intelligence student lets" amused me. There's some great graffiti about them around student area of Plymouth... some of which has been daubed over or altered presumably by workers of said company!
I forget one but one was a stencil of a girl throwing up and her sick spelt the name of the company.
They're kidding themselves if they think their reputation is rebuilt.

Wetern Powers name been mentioned a few times there. but it was my understanding that the connection was to be completed by an independant connection provider....see if my M.I.T.K can shed some light on that.

As for the freehold sale, "The consensus is that confidence in the student market is low, other than in reputable schemes from providers such as Unite." I was in Plymouth city center last week looking at some work with a client.
We were stood near Plymouth Civic Center, which is a 14 storey precast monstrosity from the 60's. The council moved out a few years ago as the place was falling to bits, and English Heritage gave the building listed status before the council could knock it down. They sold it to a developer for £1 to avoid having to spend £30m renovating it.
I suggested to the client (who was a local man) that it would soon become student accommodation. He shook his head saying student numbers in the city were falling, and people were struggling to fill existing accommodation, let alone anything new.

a suprising amount of the hideous concrete in Plymouth is listed. It's a shame because theres so much open space its got amazing potential imo. You're correct about the students i think, its also a nationwide problem. Demographic change means less 18 year olds for the next few years than there have been recently.

That 'plumbing' section. Oh dear. This shows the type of we are dealing with in general in P2P.

That 'plumbing' section. Oh dear. This shows the type of we are dealing with in general in P2P. Does it? The plumbers that were contracted have no relationship with P2P, unless you know different? I'm pretty sure that they were oblivious to the method of finance, and would have done the same to the pipework whoever hadn't paid them.
